"En los libros me gusta ver las historias interesantes" (In books, I like to learn about interesting stories)
“Me gustan libros con muchos dibujos" (I like books with a lot of drawings)
"I love books with animals in them"
This summer, Access Books Bay Area and Roblox Corporation’s Comunidad, a Latinx employee affinity group, joined forces to support Amigos de Guadalupe Center for Justice and Empowerment, a nonprofit that provides vital services to displaced families in San Jose. Recognizing the unique challenges faced by these children, who often experience disruptions to their education, the partnership provided new books for Amigos de Guadalupe's summer learning program serving 150 children.
Roblox’s Comunidad, led by Carol Alvarado, organized a successful employee book drive to purchase brand new Spanish and bilingual books to support the summer program for Kindergarteners through 8th graders. These books were carefully selected to meet the needs of the community and engage children in learning during the summer months. Access Books Bay Area contributed additional funding and donated over 200 books for the summer program and for Little Free Libraries located within Amigos de Guadalupe’s temporary housing community. Spanish and bilingual titles were chosen to foster a sense of belonging, help children see themselves reflected in books and to support their overall learning and development.
The collaboration between Access Books Bay Area, Roblox’s Comunidad, and Amigos de Guadalupe demonstrates the power of communities and corporate employees working together for a common cause. By providing access to culturally relevant and accessible books, these organizations are helping to bridge the literacy gap and foster a love of reading for children experiencing housing instability. Our collective commitment to nurturing young minds, supporting families, and building a stronger, more resilient community is making a lasting difference, one book at a time.
“I was in the summer program classrooms multiple times over the summer and each class had a bookshelf / reading area filled with vibrant, colorful, inviting books - both the kids and teachers loved it, thank you so much!”
– Stephanie Jayne, Director of Social Impact and Sustainability at Amigos de Guadalupe Center for Justice & Empowerment
