Los Robles after photos, Coronavirus, and other updates

As you can imagine, the COVID-19 outbreak in the San Francisco bay area has had an impact on the work of Access Books Bay Area as well. Our recently planned volunteer information night had to be canceled, as it was a non-essential community event. We were very much looking forward to it as a way to connect with new volunteers who wanted information about our work, as well as connect more deeply with existing volunteers who have come to a project but perhaps still want to know more about our organization. If you were thinking of coming, rest assured, we will schedule another once the virus has been more contained.

Since you won’t be able to see the finished library in person, you can check out some pictures of the library post-project here in our google photos album. You can also see pictures of all of our past projects on our photo gallery page. It looks great, and has some fabulous new books in it — something that has already caught the attention of the students at the school, according to principal Alex Quezada, who says that students have already been commenting on the library’s new look.

Also postponed is our spring project at Rosemary Elementary in Campbell, which had been scheduled for April 25th. We received word from the principal today that the school is following public health recommendations and canceling all community events, including our library refurbishment. Like many other organizations and businesses, we will be looking forward to the warm weather, which should bring a dramatic decrease in new coronavirus cases and decrease the risk associated with bringing people together. Unfortunately at this time we cannot say whether the Rosemary project will happen later in the school year or, since we were already pushing close to the end of the school year, if it will have to happen in the fall instead. You can follow us on Facebook or check in here for updates as we get them.

In the meantime, we will be continuing to work remotely with Rosemary as well as our planned fall project school to complete book ordering and ensure that we are ready to go as soon as we can!

Stay healthy everyone, and thanks again for supporting our work. Despite recent setbacks, we still have three more schools to complete in the 2020-21 school year, and need your help! You can donate here, and don’t forget to check and see if your employer matches your donations here.
